I completed my first lap loom wall weaving on a DIY frame loom my partner made for me. I’ve done a few circular weaves, so I’ve done plain weave and soymeal weave before, but twining and open weave were new to me. With the open weave, it was difficult to stop it pulling inward, so I did my best to keeep the edges straight. The colour palette isn’t my typical fare, I tend to like more colourful palettes, but I wanted to use a variety of colours and textures. Turns out this colour palette is perfect for my mom’s room, which is why I stained it driftwood grey.
Instead of finishing this with fringe and taking it off the loom, then putting it on a dowel, I thought it looked really cool to leave it on the loom, stain the frame, and hang it like that. I’m going to try this hanging method again with different colours and smaller frames. Now I just need my partner to make me all the frame looks including a new, bigger loom so I can weave pillow covers.
