To launch the Master of Design, Brand Design and Strategy program, I designed an inaugural poster and notebook for the students. The BFA, MFA, and MDes programs each had a unique color combination.
On the poster, I wanted to talk about a launch and something about moving up as a designer. I tried several symbols, but a hot air balloon worked best. The shape is the same as ArtCenter's logo, a warm red dot, and the passengers can see the landscape from far above. I found the Victorian woman in a book from my mother's library. I made some adjustments for racial diversity and played with the composition. I was influenced by Joseph Binder for the US Army Air Corps (1941) and the Disneyland attraction poster for the Skyway (1959)
Both of them use a bird's eye viewpoint and create drama with scale.
