The Cap Iron Screwdriver

A few weeks ago I decided it was high time I made a safety screwdriver that fits the cap iron screw of my planes. I thought it would be a great project to practice turning on the lathe, and to refresh my heat treating skills.

The blade needs to be hard enough to withstand the torque generated when turning the screw but not so hard that it might shatter like glass.

The sleeve around the blade prevents the blade from slipping off the head of the cap iron screw, and as the balde isn't exposed there's no chance of it accidentally cutting the person using it.
