The 12 Best Movies to Watch This Christmas
What movies to watch at Christmas? Find the best recommendations to enjoy with your family during these holidays.
1. The Grinch
You couldn't start this list any other way. If you haven't seen this movie yet (yes, some people haven't seen it) this year has to be the year. It doesn't matter if you hate Christmas or love it. If you are the former, you will perfectly understand the protagonist of the film and if you are the latter, it will help you to understand the former, because this film, besides being very entertaining, is a lesson in empathy.
Where to watch it: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
2. The Holiday
Christmas is the perfect excuse to get romantic. Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz star in this swap their homes in London and Los Angeles for a change of scenery after a breakup. You can imagine the outcome (we won't spoil it for you), but, although predictable, it's an entertaining movie and perfect for this holiday season.
Where to watch it: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Movistar +, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
3. The Polar Express
Of course, cartoon movies are the big stars of Christmas. With the kids on vacation and the cold weather, it's the perfect time to curl up on the couch and enjoy a good animation session. The Polar Express will take you on an intrepid journey to the North Pole.
Where to watch: HBO Max, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
4. Home Alone
Yes, we already know practically all the dialogue of Home Alone, but we love it so much! It's funny, but most of all, it's a nostalgic trip back to our childhood. Plus, if you're lucky enough to have little kids at home, you can enjoy it twice as much by seeing it through their eyes. Of course, we don't admit that there is anyone who hasn't seen this one.
Where to watch it: Disney +, Movistar +, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
5. While You Were Sleeping
.Back to (tragic) pieties with While You Were Sleeping, a film starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman in which an underground ticket agent falls in love with a boy she sees every day getting on the train. When he suffers an accident and is left in a coma, she begins her big role.
Where to watch it: Disney +, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
6. Die Hard
.An action movie at Christmas? Yes, why not? For those who still doubt that Die Hard has to be included as a Christmas classic in the lists, let us tell you: it takes place during the festive season and its aim is to bring the family together. Is there anything more Christmasy than wanting to bring your loved ones together during these days?
Where to watch it: Disney +, Movistar +, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and Apple TV.
7. Peter's friends
The phrase "friends are the family you choose" is already a classic. If you agree with it, why not spend Christmas with your friends? In this film, Peter invites his non-blood family to spend the holidays with him at his mansion in the British countryside. We'll leave it up to you to find out how it unfolds.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
8. Gremlins
Another Christmas classic that will entertain adults and children, although for different reasons: the former will be transported back to their childhood and will bring back fond memories, while the younger ones will be entertained and, surely, will draw attention to its special effects, peculiar compared to those of today.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
9. Jack Frost
But if we're talking about how the evolution of special effects is noticeable, Jack Frost takes the cake. The summary (with a bit of a spoiler is this crazy: the main character, played by Michael Keaton, dies and is resurrected a year later thanks to a song played by his son on an old harmonica, but he does it in the form of a snowman! For a few laughs, it's not bad at all.
Where to watch it: Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
10. Edward Scissorhands
Those who have not seen Edward Scissorhands should be warned that they should be prepared to cry. We highlight this film as a Christmas film because of its sense of goodness, which is very prevalent during this time of year. Under Tim Burton's direction, a young Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder bring to life some of the characters in their lives.
Where to watch: Disney +, Movistar +, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
11. Klaus
.The most modern on this list of Christmas classics. Spanish director Sergio Pablos created this Christmas tale in which he reinvents the origin story of Father Christmas through the eyes of Jesper, a postman who works (reluctantly) in a village at the North Pole. It is undoubtedly one of the best animated Christmas films. It was nominated for the Oscars and the Goya Awards and won major industry awards such as the Annie and BAFTA awards.
Where to watch it: Netflix.
12. Little Women
Well, if you choose the latest version of Little Women, it competes in modernity with Klaus. And you say, is this a Christmas film? Well, although it's not exactly in a festive mood, we like to include it on this list because of the family togetherness it shows and because it's always a good time to explain to your nieces, nephews, children or any of the kids around you the importance of the feminist struggle.
Where to watch the old version: Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
Where to watch the modern version: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and Apple TV.
