1. Nature Collage
You will need paper or cardboard, glue, and any nature finds such as leaves, flowers, twigs, or pebbles. After you collect the materials, go on a nature walk and encourage your child to collect small, interesting items they find along the way. When you get home, they can arrange these pieces on paper or cardboard, gluing them down to create a unique nature collage. Let them experiment with color, shape, and texture!
2. Rock Painting
You’ll need smooth stones, acrylic paint or markers, and a paintbrush. After that you can head outside to collect a few smooth, flat stones. After washing them, your child can paint colorful designs, faces, animals, or anything their imagination suggests. They can then place these painted rocks around the garden, your neighbourhood for others to find or create a rock collection.
3. DIY Bird Feeder
After collecting a pine cone, peanut butter, birdseed, and string. You will spread peanut butter over the pine cone, then roll it in birdseed. Tie a string to the top, and hang the bird feeder in your yard or on a tree branch. Your child can observe the birds that come to feed, and even keep a bird watching journal or take photos of them feeding to keep. This activity will help in sparking interest in nature and animal behavior.
4. Nature Scavenger Hunt
Begin by making a list of items to find ( a red leaf, a smooth stone, a yellow flower, etc.). And then give this list to your child and take them to find the items in your backyard, park, or nearby nature trail. You can make it a fun challenge by including unusual shapes, textures, or colors. Encourage them to pick out the item and bring it home with them or draw the items and color them!
5. Leaf Rubbing Art
Collect white paper, crayons or colored pencils, and a variety of leaves from outside. Then help your child place a leaf under a sheet of paper, and gently rub over the paper with a crayon or pencil. The leaf's shape and texture will appear on the page, revealing its intricate details. Let them experiment with different leaves and colors to create a beautiful, multi-textured artwork!
