Character Design Tutorial: How to Draw Manga Eyes
Learn how to draw different kinds of Manga eyes to express different character emotions, guided by EUDETENIS
Some manga characters actually don’t have the oversize, shiny eyes so characteristic of this genre. The eye thing happened in modern manga, which started in the 1940s and was pioneered by artist Osamu Tezuka. However, eye expressiveness has always been and is still very important when it comes to strengthening the features and emotions of this style.
EUDETENIS is a duo formed by Giovana Serafim (illustrator and designer) and Paulo (writer and editor). They specialize in Manga comic books. These outstanding manga artists have worked together for almost 10 years, and are now published nationally and internationally. Giovana is published in countries including: Japan, Denmark, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and the United Kingdom. She’s also a MasterClass in Silent Manga Audition and a member of the writing team at Japanese publisher Coamix, and she freelances for ZigZaGame Inc. in Tokyo, where she created some of the promotional materials for their Neomonsters game, which is available on Android and iPhone.
In this tutorial, Giovana gives you her tips on how to draw a few of the Manga eye styles, so you can give your characters more personality and greater expressiveness.
