5 Tips That Make You a Better Storyteller

1. Learn how to capture good stories

García de Oro explains that we are surrounded by good stories. Learn how to wonder, pay attention to what people say, and listen to the conversations you hear on the street. Then you can compile it all, for example by jotting it down in a notebook, and turn it into good stories.

2. Connect with emotions

The abyss separating us is bridged by emotional connection. Learn to explore other people’s emotions and you’ll achieve an outstanding story.

3. Find your hero

They could be a person. An object. Or an animal. Clearly define your hero and help them develop by forcing them down the path of a story.

4. Have a clear understanding of narrative structure

Introduction > Challenge > Resolution. Try to write stories that follow this basic structure, especially if you’re starting out. It’s the best way to avoid getting lost. Try to link the sequence of events to your storyline: what causes something, and what are the consequences? Later, obviously, you can subvert all the rules.

5. Know your audience

Have a clear understanding of your audience and try to give them suitable content in format they like.
