“ Applying the First Wash In this lesson, we'll start with the first wash. First of all, I like to have two jars of water on hand, one to keep everything clear, so occasionally I'll rewet the paper. The other jar is for mixing and rinsing my brush with the gouache paints. Many gouache artists use gouache paint for poster style or graphic-style art, so they tend to use one layer of a creamy paint. I, on the other hand, like to use gouache paint in more of a painterly style, which is why I like to start with an initial wash.
