The theme for my final project was heavily influenced by the current pandemic situation with lockdowns and restrictions. For this reason, I wanted to "travel" so far away as I could imagine. I live in the middle of Europe, so I though the ocean was pretty far away and it was a place I had no chance to see right now IRL. And I actually started with drawing and painting seaweeds and the ocean and empty, abandoned beaches. Later I figured, this did not interest me that much. But it was OK. I had to find another theme and soon I figured that the opposite of the ocean would be the desert (so smart, duh!). And I am currently reading a book on Georgia O'Keeffe, who spent most of her life living and inspired by the desert. So it made so much more sense. I wanted to pick 3 subjects: 1 landscape, 1 flora, 1 fauna. I started researching, looking for references for a subject that didn't exist near me. Soon I found out that the botanical garden reopened and I ran to see the Americas section, looking for cactus and other plans but unfortunately the buildings were still closed and only the outside garden was open so I had to peak through the window to see some flora, but I wasn't that successful. So I continued my research online. Spent quite some time with this project but I guess I really did enjoy the process itself more. Also, I played around not only with the brush and pencil but also with pieces of cardboard, bubble wrap and other materials. Anyway, here are my final pieces:

Teacher PlusHi Shoshanna, thanks for sharing your final project and explaining something of your process in researching and creating. The decisions we make along the way are so interesting - what we choose to include or discard. I loved your series of images you created in preparation for this final piece and as a whole collection they were so powerful. So in some ways it seems a shame to reduce the imagery to just three! But in focusing on these three there is the chance to look more closely at your paintings, which are beautiful. I love the way you have allowed the paint to bleed, to create water stains, adding spikes, patterns and textures and the different tools you've applied. Individually they are strong images, but as a triptych you have created a real sense of place. Good choice of colours too, some vibrant, some muted. Congratulations on a great final project!

I have loved the three images and your process! I am a little doubtful about what to do in the end, but I trust that I will have it clear soon. I like Giorgia O 'Keeffe, a long time ago I saw a biopic that aroused my interest in her work. What book is it? Would you recommend it?
