I've been working on a creator-owned comic book project over the last 3 years, self-publishing it in Brazil, and it is coming to an end in the next few months, so I thought I'd share the cover process for this 8-part series. It's called 10 Lost Days and is set in 1582, during the month of October when 10 days were actually skipped during the change from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. The story is a mix of science and magic, with historical and mythological characters.
I was going for an almost book-like feeling to the cover, with the logo taking up more space than the illustration and a black lateral area to the left, where the chapter number and logo can fit. Each chapter cover features one of the main characters or themes.
Throughout the progression of the covers, the main background colour changes from red to orange, to yellow to white, then light purple, dark violet and finally full black. This hopefully gives each cover a slight difference to the last while also keeping a unity to the project. Keeping with the science angle, the colours follow the Doppler light shift effect from red to dark blue.
