I throughly enjoyed Gabriela's course. The more I’ve explored methods of drawing portraits from all angles I’ve discovered that every artist has their own slightly different method. Each one using their preferred parts of different techniques, learning from each other to find a process that works for them. There seems to be a balance between finding your guidelines for proportions and choosing when to focus on your observational drawing skills.
For myself this is just enough of a guide to find the most important proportions of the face before committing to a drawing. However if I were to take it further I would start to use the Loomis or Riley Method to really dig in to the planes and anatomy of the face. I have the most fun creating portraits that have the character of the person even if there are imperfections in the artwork, and look forward to doing my best to create and explore more.
