Using the Desert to Create a Whimsical Landscape

At the beginning of 2020 my husband and I had plans to visit Joshua Tree, CA. With everything going on in the world and a global lockdown, this ended up not happening. I didn't let that deter me from at least taking a mental vacation. Pulling on inspiration from past desert trips to Arizona and some of the hikes I had hoped to take in Joshua Tree, I sketched out a pattern idea.
Next, I chose warm desert colors and used various embroidery stitches to create texture and pattern.
Once I was happy with the design, I stitch it in a couple different colorways. The purple and blue option felt like the desert at night.

Hi Melissa, I was delighted to look for you on Instagram, after reading your profile. This gave me the opportunity to order your book (digital version, this way I can take it anywhere with me!). I found your book excellent, the way you work textures is amazing. I am not onto landscape much as far as embroidering one, but yours are very beautiful. Also I liked the stitches presented, it will allow me to practice the danish knot, the granitos, the tulip stitch and the oyster stitch (the latter one being difficult for me, so far the only thing I managed with that one is making a mess of it 😄!) As I like to stitch botanicals, I loved your flowers, cactuses and leaves, as well as the field with the bullion (who doesn't love bullions!). Your use of printed fabric is also interesting, something I have not dared to do so far; to avoid having a white background, I usually dab watercolors on my fabric. So many paths to explore, embroidery is definitely a wonderful art. I am not going to join your course right now, as I have quite a few Domestika embroidery courses to finish yet, but I might join you at a later date. Wishing you great success with your course. A hug. Marie

Profesor Plus@maye_1 So glad to meet a fellow embroidery enthusiast. Thank you so much for ordering my book! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Even though you're more into botanicals, it sounds like you'll get good use out of the stitch guide and are already finding inspiration in other parts of the book too. Have fun your your current courses. -Melissa
