Orionid - Stars

I used a simple colour palette of contrasting blue/teal and orange. Contrast makes sure that the characters stand out, and that the light feels to really pop and glow.

When in doubt with colour palettes, sometimes focussing on just 2 colours is a good idea. You can then focus on values (the depth and brightness of the colours). The constraints sometimes allow us to think more consciously about the effect and lighting we are creating - without the fuss of extra colours.

I use a slightly upward facing angle. This angle is always great for adding drama or awe. Think about the angles used in film and art, and how they make us feel. How can we use composition as part of the story-telling?

Energy and movement. I am a big fan of bending the laws of nature to frame an image for story-telling purposes. I use the shapes in the background to direct the gaze. The clouds, the waves, the shooting star, and even the fox's face are all pointing us to our main character.

I allow the textures to be loose and not too neat. This, in my opinion, gives the image a feeling of movement and flare. Your idiosyncrasies and messes are part of your voice - don't airbrush them away!
