Read to the end of this post for full competition details, but first check out five easy and effective photography tips to spark your creativity for the perfect shot…
5 photography tips to get you started
1. Break out of your comfort zone
Choose passion over perfection and try new things. Don’t be afraid if something looks difficult to photograph: remember you can always take multiple shots of an object from different angles. Find something uniquely “you” that brings out your style and photography direction.
2. Find your inspiration
Watch movies and documentaries, and read photography books and magazines, to find the photographers who inspire you. You’re not trying to copy their work, but find the aspects of it that you want to introduce into your practice.
3. Get creative!
Before you start shooting, build a picture in your mind of what you want to capture in this image. Imagine the effect you want it to have.
Try working with natural light throughout the day (learning to anticipate light is a key skill). Experiment with composition, exposure, reflections, black and white, rain, contrasting colors, and more.
4. Forget fancy equipment: focus on technique
You don’t need expensive cameras or lenses: whichever tool you use, your work will be unique to you. Train your eye, and even a phone camera can be your tool to craft amazing images: many phones nowadays offer different focal options, exposure controls, portrait modes, macro options, and more.
5. Set yourself goals and practice, practice, practice
Find a photography buddy and go on daily tours of your surroundings. Seek beauty in everyday situations and share on your favorite social media platform, like Instagram. Try to create a routine that works for you. And if you need some inspiration…
